FACT CHECK: Did presiding officers upload selfies instead of results sheet on IReV portal?

As the collation of results of the 2023 presidential election is ongoing, there have been different claims and assertions going around against the competence and effectiveness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its staff.

A lot of people are claiming that the INEC did not train their staff efficiently towards the general election.

To prove this, a Twitter user @JaafarSJaafar uploaded a screenshot of the INEC – Result Console on the IREV portal which shows a presiding officer that uploaded a picture of herself instead of the result sheet.

Another video was found on Instagram of a presiding officer that also uploaded a picture of herself. There is another picture of a presiding officer in Kano State that uploaded a group picture of people sitting on a mat and another also in Kano state that uploaded a selfie of himself.

Verification

CDD Election War Room logged into the INEC result console of the IReV Portal and checked the exact State (Abia), LGA(OHAFIA), Ward (NDI ETITI NKPORO) and Polling Unit (Ndi Nsi/Ndem/Nma/Mba Ete – Ukwuakwu Village Hall) displayed in the alleged screenshot and found that the claim was true.

The picture CDD Election War Room found was the same as what was uploaded by the Twitter user. The presiding officer actually uploaded a selfie of herself in lieu of the result sheet. 

To confirm the video on Instagram, we also checked for “IN FRONT OF OISA FAMILY’S HOUSE / OISA , OKE INISA COMP” Polling Unit in INISA ward, Ado Ekiti LGA, Ekiti state, and found that a presiding officer in that Polling Unit also uploaded a picture of herself.

CDD Election War Room also checked the polling unit in Kano state where the presiding officers uploaded pictures of themselves and it was found to be true.

We can confirm that as of midday on Tuesday, these were the pictures uploaded by the presiding officers in the said polling units.

Verdict

Based on the findings made by the Election War Room, the presiding officers actually uploaded a selfie of themselves in lieu of the result sheet.
