A day after the presidential election was held, a Twitter user uploaded the INEC – Result Console of the “LEKKI SCHEME I -II” polling unit in Lagos state side by side with the original result sheet of the same polling unit.
The Twitter user claimed he stood under the rain in the polling unit to count and upload these results only to see that the result shown on INEC – Result console is different from what he saw while uploading.
How true is that? CDD Election War Room did the necessary investigation and here is what we found.
VERIFICATIONS:
CDD Election War Room logged into the Result Console of the IReV Portal and checked the exact State (Lagos), LGA (ETI-OSA), Ward (LEKKI/IKATE AND ENVIRONS) and Polling Unit (LEKKI SCHEME I -II) and found that the result sheet uploaded came from “ARUGBADU UNG.SARKI – OP” Polling Unit in ARIKYA Ward, LAFIA LGA, Nassarawa state.
We went on to check the result sheet for “ARUGBADU UNG.SARKI – OP” Polling Unit in ARIKYA Ward, LAFIA LGA, Nassarawa state, and we found it to be the exact result that was uploaded for LEKKI SCHEME I -II Polling Unit result in ETI-OSA LGA, Lagos state.
In addition, the results uploaded are in jpeg format, but INEC said the result sheets are to be uploaded in PDF format, which raises a red flag.
While this particular fact-check was ongoing, CDD Election War Room saw more discrepancies from the INEC – Result Console on the IReV Portal, and investigations carried out showed the discrepancies to be true.
However, we are yet to confirm if these errors are due to IReV malfunction, or a deliberate act by some bad actors or the presiding officers in the affected Polling Units.
Verdict
Based on the findings made by the Election War Room, the results uploaded for LEKKI SCHEME I -II Polling Unit in ETI-OSA LGA, Lagos state is that of “ARUGBADU UNG.SARKI – OP” Polling Unit in ARIKYA Ward, LAFIA LGA, Nassarawa state. Hence, the claim is true.
