A screenshot of a memo said to be from the Taraba State University registrar’s office has been making the rounds on social media, particularly WhatsApp.
The memo informs the university community about reduction in fees, which will take effect from the 2022–2023 academic year. It states that the 50% slash in fees was approved by the State Governor.
CDD War Room investigated the claim and discovered a YouTube video of the newly elected governor speaking to students in their hall of residence at Taraba State University, where he promised to renovate the halls.
During his campaigns, the governor, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasised his commitment to education and promised to make basic education free and compulsory.
Many traditional news organisations across the country have also reported the fee reduction news which has been confirmed true.
