Verification
The Osun State House of Assembly on Friday, July 7, 2023, confirmed the list of 25 commissioner nominees forwarded to the House for screening and confirmation by Ademola Adeleke, the governor of the state.
Announcing the names during the plenary session, Adewale Egbedun, the Assembly Speaker, confirmed the development through a letter he received from Adeleke. According to a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, the 25 commissioner-nominees include Oladosu Babatunde, Bayo Ogunbamgbe, Sesan Oyedele, Kolapo Alimi, Soji Adeigbe, Moshood Olagunju, George Alabi and Sunday Oroniyi. Others are Abiodun Ojo, Bashir Salami, Moruf Ayofe, Sola Ogungbile, Bunmi Jenyo, Ayo Awolowo, Wole Bada, Dipo Eluwole, Rasheed Aderibigbe, Moruf Adeleke, Adeyemo Ademola, Olabiyi Odunlade, Jola Akintola, Mayowa Adejorin, Adenike Adeleke, Tola Fasheru and Gani Ola-Oluwa.
Many Nigerians confused “Folashade Adenike Adeleke” to be one of his daughters who is also named Adenike Adeleke. Credible media agencies like IntelRegion and the Vanguard news have reported that Folashade Adenike Adeleke is the daughter of a late business mogul in Osun state, Alhaji Ahmed Omidiran, and not Governor Ademola Adeleke’s daughter.
Although Governor Adeleke has a daughter named Adenike, she is, however, not the one appointed. The Adenike Adeleke that has been appointed is the wife of Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the elder brother of Governor Adeleke and is thus the governor’s sister-in-law, not his daughter. It was said that Mrs. Adenike in question was married to the Late Isiaka Adeleke, the brother of Ademola Adeleke.
Isiaka Adeleke was the first executive governor of Osun State. He governed between January 1992 – November 1993. During the Nigerian third republic, Adeleke ran for governor of the newly created Osun State which was carved out from Oyo State. He was a member of SDP the dominant party in the state. The front runner was a lawyer, Oladipo Oladosu but after a close primary in which Adeleke came second,
Adeleke was able to win a runoff. He was then elected the first civilian governor of Osun State in 1992. Notable decisions made by Adeleke was the establishment of a polytechnic at Iree, a college of technology at Esa-Oke and the completion of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation. However, in 1994, after the dissolution of the republic, Adeleke pitched its tent to the opposition group, Afenifere but later switched to join a Democratic Partyof Nigeria, a new political party with support from close associates of Abacha. In 2007, Adeleke was elected senator for Osun West.
Verdict: False
Conclusion: The claim that Ademola Adeleke appointed his 28-year-old daughter Adenike Adeleke as commissioner in the state on July 7, 2023 is not true. CDD fact checkers can confirm that Adenike Adeleke is the daughter of a late business mogul in Osun state, Alhaji Ahmed Omidiran, and not Governor Ademola Adeleke’s daughter.
