FACT CHECK: Did Hope Uzodinma promise 4,000 people jobs and relocation to Europe, Canada?

During the week, an X user (formerly Twitter) posted a video of Imo state governor Hope Uzodinma. The post claimed that the governor had promised to relocate 4,000 people to Europe and Canada through job creation.

He wrote, “A governor is promising 4000 youths japa. A state governor o. No! This is the height. I’m done here!”

The post has had over 500,000 interactions as of the time this report was made.

Verification

In the video, Uzodinma was seen addressing a crowd of excited individuals promising them jobs in oversea countries.

CDD War Room traced the viral video to a campaign event which took place on Thursday, September 28, 2023, in Imo state, Nigeria.

The campaign event was one of the governor’s campaign tour ahead of the November 11, governorship election to begin a new administration in the state.  During the event, Uzodinma was quoted saying, “Let me tell you something. I have gone further to negotiate with the European Union companies and the Canadian companies.

“They are sending us areas of visible skills which our youth will also learn.

“By December this year, 4,000 Imo youths will be employed in Europe.

“Once that letter comes, the governor will pay for your air ticket.”

Verdict

CDD War Room can confirm that the video is true and portrays recent events, which took place in Imo state Nigeria.
