FACT CHECK: Did Soludo Instruct Principals in All Anambra Secondary Schools to Compile Teachers’ Details and PVCs?

A claim received via the Check by Meedan tool alleges that the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, who is also the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the November 8 off-cycle election, directed principals of all secondary schools in the state to compile the details and Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) of teachers ahead of next month’s poll.

This comes amid the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration, which was recently observed across Nigeria.

Claim: Governor Soludo instructed principals in all Anambra secondary schools to compile the details and PVCs of teachers in their schools.

Verification:

The CDD War Room investigated the claim and found that while there have been accusations online about the Anambra State Government requesting teachers’ PVCs, there is no credible evidence or official communication from the state government to support this allegation.

To further verify, we reached out to several contacts in Anambra State, including local monitors referred to as “soldiers of mouth.”

The responses from multiple teachers revealed mixed accounts. Some confirmed that the teachers who represented their schools at the State-organised Teachers’ Day celebration were asked to provide their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) numbers and bank account details. Others, however, stated that they were only asked to provide their bank details, with assurances that a ₦20,000 honorarium would be paid in recognition of the celebration.
