Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson of the Labour Party Presidential campaign team, on Sunday, February 26, 2023, challenged the Ekiti state result of the presidential elections.
Okonkwo who posted an alleged screenshot of the election result uploaded by CivicHive claimed that the date of the result proves that it was uploaded days before the election, hence, it was manipulated.
Founded in 2017, Civic Hive is an innovative upshoot of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), BudgIT.
Kenneth Okonkwo’s tweet has since gone viral, with over 800,000 views.
Verification
We went through the website of the NGO to authenticate the claim by Okonkwo.
In verifying the claim, CDD War Room found that the result from Okonkwo slightly differed from what was uploaded on the website.
One such difference is the total number of votes the All Progressives Congress polled. That of Okonkwo read 201,486 and the one on their site read 201,494.
Also, the way the dates appear differs. That uploaded by Okonkwo had the time zone appearing first followed by an American date writing style. The original is arranged in the British date writing format, followed by the time zone.
Civic Hive also tweeted an original image from their results platform in response to a tweet with the doctored image.
Verdict
The claim by Okonkwo is false; the screenshot making the rounds has been doctored to show an earlier date.
