A viral picture of Olumide Oworu, the Labour Party candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly in Surulere Constituency I, went viral on social media alongside claims that thugs attacked him on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
Following the said attack, a picture of a bloodied Oworu began circulating on social media.
Verification
CDD Election War Room checked Oworu’s and the LP’s social media networks to see if they shared the same picture, but found that neither of them did.
On further investigation, we found that the image was from a movie set, On The Edge, and posted on Oworu’s Instagram page on October 3, 2022.
It was captioned “Alagbado John Wick #OnTheEdge”.
This photo was published six months ago before Oworu announced his intention to run for office in the Lagos state election.
Verdict
The image circulating on social media is old and does not show an attack on Olumide Oworu as claimed. CDD Election War Room found that the pictures were from a movie set as published on Oworu’s Instagram account six months ago.
