What We Do

CDD Fact check operates as a distinct unit within a legally registered non-profit organization
in Nigeria, the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD). CDD is headquartered in
Abuja, Nigeria with registration number CAC/IT/NO 414767 by Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs
Commission (CAC). CDD was founded in 1997 to mobilise global opinion and resources for
democratic development and provide an independent space to reflect critically on the
challenges posed to the democratization and development processes in West Africa, and also
to provide alternatives and best practices to the sustenance of democracy and development in
the region.

 

CORE TASKS

● Identifying claims and instruments of information disorder (audio, text & video)
● Producing fact checks to counter mis/disinformation on elections and issues
of democratic governance.
● Producing fact shields (Explainers) for the purpose of pre-bunking and
debunking mis/disinformation.
● Raising public awareness, enlightenment and media literacy efforts online and
offline
● Training of media and key stakeholders on key steps and strategies for
mitigating information disorder.
