On September 26, 2025, several social media posts and online blogs claimed that the Federal High Court in Abuja had dismissed all charges against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his no-case submission. The posts suggested that the ruling effectively freed Kanu and brought an end to his ongoing trial.

CLAIM: A Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Nnamdi Kanu’s no-case submission, ending the charges against him.
VERIFICATION
The CDD War Room investigated the claim that a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the charges against Nnamdi Kanu after accepting his no-case submission.
Findings show that the claim is false. On September 26, 2025, Premium Times reported that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Nnamdi Kanu’s no-case submission and ordered him to enter his defence. The ruling means that the court found sufficient evidence presented by the prosecution to establish a prima facie case, requiring Kanu to respond. It does not mean that the charges were dismissed or that he was acquitted.
Further reporting by The Punch Newspapers on September 26, 2025, corroborated this, stating that Justice Omotosho rejected the no-case application filed by Kanu’s counsel and held that the evidence and witnesses presented by the prosecution were sufficient to warrant continuation of trial. The court therefore directed the defendant to open his defence.
In addition, checks across reputable media platforms such as News Agency of Nigeria and Peoples Gazette Nigeria consistently reports that the no-case submission was dismissed, not the charges. The court adjourned the matter to October 8, 2025, for the continuation of Kanu’s trial. No credible media or court record supports the claim that the case has been concluded or that Kanu has been discharged.
In legal practice, a no-case submission is a motion requesting that a case be dismissed because the prosecution has allegedly failed to establish a case. When such a submission is dismissed, it means the judge finds there is sufficient evidence for the accused to enter defence not that the case has been thrown out. The claim circulating online therefore reflects a misunderstanding or deliberate distortion of the court ruling.
VERDICT: FALSE
The claim that the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed all charges against Nnamdi Kanu is false. Verified reports confirm that the court only rejected his no-case submission and ordered him to enter his defence, meaning the trial is ongoing and the charges have not been dismissed.
