Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, quoted a tweet allegedly made by the Labour Party Vice-Presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
According to Fani-Kayode, Datti posted a rumoured result from the recently conducted 2023 presidential election connoting that his party supposedly won the conducted election.
Fani-Kayode called for the arrest of Baba-Ahmed for spreading fake news and attempting to incite the people. The post has since received over 500,000 views and interactions.
Background
The recently conducted 2023 presidential election was one laced with a lot of controversies.
From voter intimidation to logistical challenges, and to controversial uploads to the IReV portal.
This resulted in different parties coming up with supposed results and evidence claiming that their parties were rigged, with the Labour Party being one of the drivers of such claims.
Although the issue has been escalated to court, there have been multiple tweets of individuals here and here, claiming that their party is the winning party.
Verification
CDD War Room looked into the Twitter account and found that it is a parody account of the Labour Party Vice-presidential candidate, Baba-Ahmed.
The description of the page clearly states that the account is a ‘stan account’. Stan accounts are handles set up to support and praise certain public figures.
Dismissing parody accounts, Baba-Ahmed had said in the past that he has not been online for 10 years.
“I hereby dissociate my humble self from the creation, ownership and operation of any such social media accounts… I humbly call on the general public on and offline to disregard any and all exchanges and communications from the fake social media accounts,” Baba-Ahmed said.
It is worth noting that the tweet which was posted on the parody account has now been deleted. Furthermore, INEC has made no statement regarding the supposed victory of the Labour Party as the case is now in court.
According to the law, INEC is the final authority on election results.
Verdict
The tweet quoted by Femi Fani-Kayode alleging that the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Baba-Ahmed, said that the Labour Party won 19 states and the FCT in the just concluded election is misleading.
CDD War Room found that the tweet was made from a parody account and not from the official account of the Datti Baba-Ahmed.
