FACT CHECK: Does video show people protesting over the ongoing collation of Edo election results? 

A video circulating online claims to show aggrieved party supporters protesting amid the ongoing collation of results for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State.

Following the September 21 voting exercise, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began collating results from local government areas on Sunday afternoon at its Edo State Collation Centre. After reviewing results from 16 out of 18 LGAs, the Collation Centre went on a recess, to resume collation at 5 pm for the collation of the remaining two LGAs.

Verification

The CDD War Room contacted our partners and observers in the State who confirmed the protest staged around INEC’s office at Aduwawa road off Ikpoba Hill in Benin City. Protesters reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing result collation process.

Verdict: TRUE
