‘It’s fake news’ — Kaduna denies claim that El-Rufai revoked C of Os of all banks in Kaduna state

A viral Twitter post has alleged that the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, has revoked the C of Os of all banks in Kaduna state over the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira redesign policy.

The post has also gone further to state that subsequently, the walls of these banks have been marked red X by the Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Agency (KASUPDA) with bulldozers positioned.

Nasir el-Rufai on naira redesign

Following the redesign of the naira and the consequent hardship on Nigerians, El-Rufai, alongside some other governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have sued the federal government in a bid to extend the deadline for the expiration of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.

The Supreme Court ruled that the old and new notes be legal tender until the court concludes on February 22, 2023. But President Muhammadu Buhari and the Central Bank of Nigeria have insisted on the February 10 deadline, leading to a nationwide cash crunch.

El-Rufai has insisted that the old notes be legal tender across Kaduna state, a clear affront to President Buhari’s orders.

This has fuelled claims that El-Rufai is willing to revoke certificate of ownership of lands used by banks in the state.

Kaduna state denies the claim

Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs, told CDD Election War Room that the claim is false. We also found no evidence of bulldozers waiting around banks in Kaduna.
