CLAIM: Anambra State Labour Party has collapsed its structure to ADC ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election

Verification

The CDD War Room investigated the post to verify the authenticity of the claim, and here is what we found.

We observed that while the account profile shows “Sarcasm, Satire,” it was created in August 2024, with its location set to California. The cover photo displays Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s presidential ticket holders in the 2023 election. The profile picture is from a post made on July 27, captioned “we bring HOPE”, showing a young woman wearing a shirt with the ADC logo.

Despite the post’s virality, no credible media outlet has reported any alliance or structural collapse between the Labour Party and the ADC in Anambra State.

In a report published by Core Truth, George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the 2025 Anambra election, debunked the claim during the official inauguration of the George Moghalu/Ifeoma Okaro Campaign Council Organisation in Awka. He reportedly described the narrative as a fabrication by political opponents afraid of LP’s growing influence in the State.

There’s no iota of truth in the rumour. It’s being circulated by those threatened by the strength, popularity and acceptability of LP in the state,” Moghalu was quoted to have said. He shared the news piece on his verified X handle on July 8, 2025.

Furthermore, an opposition coalition—including former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (LP), and former APC chieftain Nasir El-Rufai—had on July 2, 2025, reportedly adopted the ADC as their political platform to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections. This move came after their attempt to register a new political party, All Democratic Alliance (ADA), with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, the Labour Party has consistently distanced itself from any such coalition. One of the key resolutions from its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on May 2, 2025, was that LP would not be part of any alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press statement shared on the party’s verified X handle—wherein it announced the suspension of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti and others over alleged anti-party activities—the party reiterated that it was not interested in “any overtures by any group or persons to go into any coalition or merger.”

This position has been reinforced in several instances across official communications, as seen here, here, here, and here.

Verdict: FALSE

The CDD War Room can confirm that at the time of filing this report, there are no credible reports supporting the claim that the Anambra State Labour Party has collapsed its structure into the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In fact, the party’s governorship candidate, George Moghalu, has publicly debunked the rumour, describing it as politically motivated.
