CDD War Room received a claim on WhatsApp, stating that the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) organised a workshop for state commissioners of finance in the United Kingdom.
This is coming amid the foreign exchange crisis which has raised concerns from Nigerians. Nigerians have also lamented about rising prices of food items in the country. The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, disclosed in February, when he appeared before the House of Representatives, that the foreign exchange market was facing increased demand pressures. He said that had led to a continuous decline in the value of the Naira.
According to Cardoso, Nigerians spent $98bn in 10 years on foreign education, healthcare and personal travels, which had impacted the country’s currency.
Claim: Accountant-general’s office held a workshop for state commissioners of finance in the United Kingdom

We checked and found that the accountant-general’s office organised a workshop on financial management and international public sector accounting standards (IPSAS) in London, the United Kingdom.
TheCable reported that the event titled “Public Financial Management and IPSAS Workshop for State Commissioners of Finance and Officials of OAGF”, was held at Copthorne Tara Hotel from March 4 to March 9, 2024.
Speaking on why the workshop was held in London, Bawa Mokwa, who is the director of press at the accountant general’s office, explained that it was not a one-off meeting as it is an annual event.
While Mokwa noted that the National Economic Council (NEC) approved the workshop, he said, “They usually go to the UK to do it annually because the resource persons are resident in the UK and they implement it to the letter.”
