Recently, an X user (formerly Twitter) posted a picture with the caption, “More than 30 people confirmed death, and many are injured. Massive burial will be taken at Madaka outskirts under Kagara Rafi local government. Hasbunallahu wani’imal wakeel!”.
The post has garnered over 1,500 views and 17 reposts, accompanied by expressions of grief and prayers for the departed souls and families of the deceased.

The CDD War Room traced the image attached to the tweet, which depicts an incident that happened in Kadawa, Gandasamu, Jinkirawa Tsara, and Yanbuki villages in the Zurmi Local Area of Zamfara State, North West, Nigeria in June 10, 2021.
The results of the Google reverse image show that the picture has been shared repeatedly on Facebook since 2021 and 2022, respectively. Not only that, but it has also been used in different contexts by various Facebook users. On June 12, 2021, a Facebook user posted the image on his page. On March 16, 2022, two Facebook users updated their page with the image. Another Facebook user also posted the image on her page on July 28, 2022.
Also, On June 12, 2021, HumAngleMedia reported that terrorists killed over 50 villagers on Thursday evening, June 10, 2021, after attacking Kadawa, Gandasamu, Jinkirawa Tsara, and Yanbuki wards in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State in Northwest Nigeria. The District Head of Magarya, one of the affected areas, confirmed the incident to HumAngle. The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) also reported the killing of 60 people by gunmen suspected to be terrorists in Kadawa village.
VERDICT: MISLEADING
The CDD War Room confirms that the image used to depict killings in the Madaka community of Niger State, North Central Nigeria, is misleading. The picture depicts an incident involving terrorists attack in Kadawa, Gandasamu, Jinkirawa Tsara, and Yanbuki villages in Zurmi Local Area of Zamfara State, North West Nigeria, on June 12, 2021. This indicated that the image is old and has no connection with any attack in Niger State, North Central Nigeria.
