A video has been circulating on multiple social media platforms including, WhatsApp, claiming there is voter intimidation in some parts of Surulere, Lagos.
In the video making the rounds, a male voice is heard asking voters at a polling unit to cast their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) or go home.
“Go home, no one forced you to be here, if I see your vote for another party, I will take a look. This is an APC polling unit and if you are not for APC, go home,” the man said.
Multiple social media users who posted the video indicated that the event is happening at Fehintola Giwa Street Aguda, Surulere, Lagos state.
Verification
We analysed the video to find out if it had appeared on the internet before, and found no earlier version of the video. In the video, we can see the bi-modal voter accreditation system (BVAS), suggesting that the video was shot after the introduction of the technology.
The BVAS is a new innovation introduced to promote a free and fair election and the BVAS machine was spotted in the video.
News Central TV confirmed the incident stating that the man in the video is a party agent for the APC.
Verdict
The evidence suggests that the video is from the Saturday election in Surulere. Other forms of violence have also been reported in the region of Surulere.
