FACT CHECK: Does video show Ondo youth leader attacking members with gun?

On November 3, 2024, a video went viral on X (formerly Twitter). Attached to the video is a claim that “WATCH: Ondo APC Politician Attacks Community Members With Gun For Calling For His Replacement As Youth Leader After 14 Years”

As of the time of this report, the video has over 88,000 views. 

ALL WE KNOW

The CDD War Room found that the first time the video was uploaded on the internet was on November 3, 2024. 

We found that the video was retrieved from Ipele town, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. According to CDD-West Africa’s Soldier of Mouth who is a resident of the community, the violent confrontation was between some youths of Ipele and the President of the community youth association, Bola Orisadare

According to CDD-West Africa’s Soldier of Mouth, the meeting was convened to deliberate on issues such as the 14-year leadership of Bola Orisadare among others, but became violent when Orisadare stormed the meeting venue wielding a gun. The Ipele community youth leader who has held the position for 14 years was seen wielding gun in the video.
