A video of people chanting “give us Obi” has been shared on social media alongside claims that it shows Nigerians abroad protesting against the victory of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the February 25 presidential election.
The 2023 general elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which took place in all the states in Nigeria, saw the APC candidate, Bola Tinubu, declared as the winner.
The election has been criticised by some Nigerians, who claim that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was flawed, this way allowing the APC to commit election fraud by manipulating votes.
Two of the other major parties that participated in the election — the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party — have called for the cancellation of the election saying they would not accept the result.

CDD Election War Room analysed the video and found that the video was from Independence Day celebrations in 2022. The video, uploaded to TikTok on October 2, 2022 was part of the independence day rally for the Labour Party candidate.
In the video, a crowd of Nigerians in diaspora embarked on a walk to the Nigerian Embassy to campaign for Peter Obi as seen here. The event was also reported by newspapers in Nigeria, including ICIR.
Verdict
This is an old video, it shows a rally in support of Peter Obi, not a protest against Tinubu’s victory in the just concluded February 25, 2023, presidential election.
